Our 1997 Montero SR just kicked 150,000 miles and is still going strong- This truck has blazedthru blizzards in ski country especially the blizzard of the century in the Poconos- It burns a little oil but the fit and finish is still strong- Mitsubishi has the best paint- It even pulled our Nissan Frontier thru the snow-We don't want to give her up we would recommend theis truck to anyone- We also had an 86 2 door that is still going strong use it for taking the dogs to the beach

Have had this truck since 2001, bought it with 19,000 miles - just turned 151,000 last week and still going strong. I had to have the transmission rebuilt last January, but other than normal maintenance it has been a top performer. I often take it off road and have had no issues in mud, snow or gravel. My third off road vehicle and by far the best. Hope it has another 100K in it!

I bought this Montero as a temporary truck I thought. I was the second owner and it was late 2000. I think I paid $5500 for it. It had 130,000 miles on it, but it was abolutely immaculate and had good service records from the original owner. In the last 11 years of owning it,.....I have come to really appreciate its durability. I just put my second set of plugs in it at 238,000 miles,....and the only reason I did that was because I broke a plug and an exhaust valve when doing donuts in the snow last February,..and I ended up pulling the cylinder heads off to do a valve job. Its all back together now,...and I expect to make it to 300,000 miles as it still looks nearly like new and has ice cold A/C. Since the valve job, it runs fantastically. In eleven years of ownership, I have had two prior surprise repairs. The crankshaft front pulley broke and damaged the front timing cover etc (Although I actually drove it to work like this,..and I had to replace the alternator. The Paint still looks good, the interior still looks nearly like new, the transmission still shifts perfectly, The A/C has never needed freon, the brakes have never needed anything other than routine maintenance, It still has the original mufflers on it. The power windows all still work, the power locks still work. The catalytic converter is just now starting to leak, I have replaced the alternator twice (Pep Boys rebuilt alternators,....probably would have only done it once if I had installed a new one. I just did the second water pump replacement at 237,000 when I did the valve job,....just because I was already in there,...and of course did the timing belt, front main seal and a few other bits that are again considered routine maintenance. I have bought two Land Rover Discovery SUVs over the years as an "Upgrade" from the Montero, a 2002 one owner with only 60,000 miles and a 2001 with a few more miles on it. Turned out neither Land Rover could hold a candle to the Montero for reliability, so, both Land Rovers were sold and I started driving the Montero again......just cant seem to let loose of it. Its a good thing.
